But it didn't matter, they survived. She had put back on the lost weight, her muscle tone returned, her coat was once again lush and shiny. It was as though she had never nearly died. As agreed, her and Cruxer spent most of their time together, not that she minded. She'd be lying if she said that she hadn't gotten attached to him and his presence. It wasnt so bad, being here, with him. But she had yet to tell him about her discovery. He had no clue that she could manifest fire. The anxiety had gnawed a whole in her stomach. She would moved with ease towards the lake, winter beginning to dwindle down. It was still chilly, but the snow was melting, soon enough spring would be here. Standing at the waters edge she stand in silence for a moment. Her thoughts muddled with so much.
<p>
She knew that she couldnt keep this a secret forever. But what would he say? How would he react? They had terrorized that woman with wings, had silently vowed to rid the world of the freaks that this land apparently housed. And now she was part of them. Worry etched into her features. Her crown would tip back, a call leaving her lips. She needed him. Her need bled into her voice. Would he hear her? Was he close enough? Moving away from the water she would find a tree, nestling beneath its branches, tucking herself away in the shadows of the setting sun. It would be dark soon. Legs folded beneath her, ears swiveling as she waited for him to arrive. They had never truly gotten very far from one another so she didn't really have to worry about him not hearing her. But his reaction hung over her head like a guillotine waiting to fall. Would he still want her?

His forepaws would leave bloody paw prints as he moved slowly down south. But by the time he made it south it had been almost a day and a half since his fights, moving around the the lake to the north and then the mountains before swinging back south towards the lower lake. He hurt, blood matting his fur in nasty clumps and leaving his scarf stiff as a board. He had been tempted to take a dip in the northern lake but had decided it was too soon since he had been in a fight to risk reopening any of his wounds. So instead he would walk, trudging as he attempted to make it back down south towards Lucia. He wanted to bring her north with him, the land there was colder yes but there was a place where the freaks couldn't use their magic. The idea behind that made him want to move up there more and more. Especially after his last battle with the large mutant with heatless flames sprouting from his spines. Cruxer trembled, unease washing through him as he continued to move. It had been over a month now since they had washed up here and it had not yet gotten better. Every turn there seemed to run into more and more of these freaks, Cit had been little to no help but it was a bit better then before with her help. So far she had been less then helpful but she was still better then nothing.

Her howl would reach him and slowly his head would turn, scabs breaking as he flexed not yet healed skin and fresh blood pooled around cracked wounds. He would pay them no mind as he altered his course slightly and began to make his way towards Lucia's call without delay. Long limbs devoured the earth as he made his way towards the lake, sun slowly setting above though by the time he arrived it had sunk completely beneath the horizon. She was laying languidly, tucked unto the shadows like a princess waiting for her prince and he would come, pulling himself from the shadows to appear before her. <font style=" color: #8E000E; text-shadow: 0px 0px 10px #000000;">"I think we should move north. There is a land where magic doesn't work..."</font> he would say, his voice a low rumble as he moved slowly towards her and dropped himself heavily to the ground beside her, laying to her left and immediately flopping onto his side so that his back was pressed into her side and his legs were stretched out abad away from her. He would stretch his neck up and drop it so his cheek landed atop her paws before closing his eyes. <font style=" color: #8E000E; text-shadow: 0px 0px 10px #000000;">"I met a woman with feathers growing from her body. Not attached like mine but attached like a birds. I met a man with spines towering from his black and engulfed in flames that were not hot to the touch... This place scares me."</font> His words were unusually soft, aqua gaze closing slowly as he sighed. He wanted nothing more then for all this to be done, for the world to go back to normal.

Lavender gaze would watch his every move as he closed the distance between them. It wasnt until he flopped down beside her that she got a whiff of dried blood. Alarm shot through her as his lead his head to rest on her paws. Her gaze thoroughly inspected him, immediately finding the healing wound on his neck. She would tsk with mild disapproval before scooting closer so that she could clean his wounds. It wasnt the first time she had tasted his blood, having cleaned his wounds once before. Tongue would snake from between her lavender jaws, rasping against his healing flesh as gently as she could. The taste of him flared wildly across her tastebuds, extracting and new and unknown emotion in her belly. A twisted desire darkened her gaze, but she didn't stop her ministrations. He would immediately begin to speak. He wanted to move north, wolves couldnt use their magic there. She would falter briefly, her tongue missing a beat against his flesh. Magic....
<P>
His words were unusually soft, his eyes falling closed. He had a met woman that had feathers like a bird and a man with spikes and fire. Fire.... Her heart thundered wildly in her chest. She could only hope that he wouldn't hear it. He would admit his fear, and it turned her blood to ice. Dread and panic began to rise uncontrollably. How was she suppose to tell him now? <font style=" color: #716D84; text-shadow: 0px 0px 10px #000000;">"Cruxer....I...."</font> Her voice was soft, almost inaudible as she stopped cleaning his wounds to look down at him. Ears pulled back against her skull, unbridled fear and panic clearly etched into her features. Her stomach dropped, her heart was about to beat right out of her chest. In an effort to calm and distract herself, she would tug at his scar, seeking to free it from his neck so she could soak it in the lake to wash away the blood. Tension rattled her frame. A familiar feeling blossomed in her chest. She would rear back, smoking spilling from her nostrils, the beginning telltale signs. She fought to control it, fought to not allow the flames to dance across her paws. Her wild gaze would drop to her paws. Her entire posture screamed self preservation.

His eyes would shut and a soft sigh would escape from his lips as he relaxed into the feel of Lucia. His back was pressed firmly into her side with his neck stretched backwards so that his head lay on her paws. After a moment her tongue would begin to rasp against tender flesh, careful as ever as she pulled dried blood from his matted fur and attempted to make him at least a bit more presentable. He would speak, tones lazy and solemn as he told her about his time away from her.  It was conversational, simply him stating current events... What happened next was almost too much for him to handle. He smelt the smoke first, the heat was next as Lucia attempted to grab onto his scarf and loosen it from its knot around his neck. And then all hell broke loose. His eyes would fly wide, opening to the point where his eyes might as well had popped out of his skull. He would back up, his forepaws scrambling madly against the ground as he attempted to put as much distance between himself and Lucia as possible. Panic raced madly through the body, his breath catching in his throat. All he could do was stare as flames began to spew from her lips. He didn't know what to do, what else could he do other then stare? His only friend, his traveling companion, was one of them. One of  the freaks, the mutants, that they were hunting. Was he supposed to kill her? He didn't know if he could even if he had to... All he could do was stare, forepaws pressed solidly into the earth as he attempted to create distance between them. What did he do...?

His eyes snapped open wide, his eyes looking like they may pop out of his head at any moment. He back pedaled frantically, trying to put distance between them. Her heart thundered against her chest, sputtering to keep up with her panic. Ears pulled back against her skull, her neck scrunching, chin tipping down. Her vision blurred, eyes welling up with unshed tears. His expression said it all. She was one of <i>them</i>. She had become one of things that they swore to eliminate. She peered up him, eyes widen with fear. She didnt want this, she never asked for this, it was just something she had stumbled upon, just appeared since arriving in this god forsaken land. Trying to pick up the pieces of her control, flames died down, her body temperature returning to normal, smoke dissipating.
<P>
They both remained silent. It was they could do, just sit there and stare at one another. The panic between them was palpable. Rooted to the spot, she couldnt move even if she wanted to. Her body trembled, breaths coming out in short bursts, rapid and harsh. If she could make it go away, she would, but she didnt know how. The goddess had turned her back on her too, cursing her along with the rest of the wolves here. The silence echoed loudly in her ears, rattling her brain. She wanted him to say something, anything. She wanted him to tell her it would be okay, that they would figure it out together. A look of shame crossed her features, her gaze dropping once more to her paws. Muscles were rigid beneath her pelt, claws flexing and digging into the ground. This would change everything or nothing.

What could he do? The more he stared at her the more he realized his whole world is falling apart right before his eyes, he didn't even have a moment to try and figure out what Lucia might be feeling, how terrified she might be feeling. All he could do was panic, he could only stare wildly at her as if waiting for her to tell him it was some sick joke. But no words would come from her, it wasn't her job to comfort him after all. Eventually she would reign it all in, bringing her powers under control as fire and smoke subsided and slowly dissipated. In her eyes he saw fear, fear that matched if not surpassed his own. But soon those emotions would be clouded by tears, her gaze slowly sliding down towards the ground as if ashamed to look him in the eye. He wanted to say something, to comfort her in someway but he couldn't find the words. His lower jaw would unhinge working slowly making him look like a fish out of water simply gasping for air and in survival mode. Shit. What was he supposed to do. They had sworn that they would kill them, that they would remove the mutants and the freaks in this land. And yet now here she stood before him one of them. Tentatively he would take a step forward, allowing his haunches to unfurl and bring him to standing position. Suddenly his mind is blank all he was doing was working on instinct following his heart. He would attempt to close the distance between them quickly, he didn't want to give her time to react. Neck would stretch forward nose extended and attempt to touch her cheek. <font style=" color: #8E000E; text-shadow: 0px 0px 10px #000000;">"Luce..."</font> His words were soft, tentative, he didn't really know what to say but all he knew was a silence couldn't last forever. Transfixing her gaze on her paws, she studied them carefully. The rustle of fur and shuffle of paws was her only signal that he was closing in. Her body would stiffen, though it seemed impossible that she could get anymore tense. He closed the distance between them in a few steps, not giving her a chance to react. His cool nose would touch her cheek, causing her to flinch before relaxing into him. She knew what they had said, what they had promised. They were to kill all the mutants and freaks. Would he kill her? She would like to think not, but she had seen the fear etched into his features.
<P>
Her name of his lips would have her gaze lifting hesitantly to meet his. <font style=" color: #716D84; text-shadow: 0px 0px 10px #000000;">"I..."</font> Her voice was a hoarse whisper, barely audible. She had no idea what to say. Apologize? Ask for mercy? Tentatively she would lean into, her body relaxing, shoulders slumping with emotional exhaustion. What had she done to deserve this? Was she being punished for leaving her home and coming here? Was she not met to ever leave her birthplace? Desperately she wanted to get a hold of her emotions, to not wear her heart on her sleeve, to be able to contain her emotions.

Was this how she had felt her whole life? Every touch she had ever offered in their past he had shrugged off or recoiled from, dismissed passively before moving on. Now he knew. His heart felt like it dropped into his stomach for that moment when she broke contact and he was left feeling cold. There was no better way to describe the icy feeling that arched through him as he studied her. But then all at once she would relax, her shoulder slumping as she leaned into him. There was relief that came from that touch but also tension. She was one of them. The thought kept playing through his mind over and over as his gaze was slowly turned skywards. Had the goddess cursed her? Was this punishment for leaving Shai? For leaving their home? Was this <i>his</i> punishment? For abandoning his search for the oracle and ultimately abandoning his home and family? For a moment he would stand there, immobile as he stared off into the distance overtop her head, allowing her to lean into his chest. A single word would escape from her lips and slowly his ears would pin to his skull and eyes would slip closed. <font style=" color: #8E000E; text-shadow: 0px 0px 10px #000000;">"How long have you known..."</font> He would ask, his voice soft though he wouldn't allow any emotion to slip into her words. He had to deal with this professionally, impassively with a clear mind and not let his emotions cloud his judgement.

She could hear the professionalism in his tones as he tried to treat this like business. For a moment she said nothing. How long had she know? It wasnt long. Only long enough to avoid the inevitable. Her own eyes fell shut, her body tense with anxiety. <font style=" color: #716D84; text-shadow: 0px 0px 10px #000000;">"About a week."</font> Her voice was monotoned, carefully cleared of all emotion, though no matter how hard she tried, she could stop her voice from shaking. Never in a million years is this how she imagined that she would die. Nor did she ever imagine him being the one killing her. Had anyone told her this is the direction her life would take, she would have laughed and called them crazy. She suddenly understood what it felt like to be outcasted, to be banished. Briefly she would pity those her family had shunned. But how could she ask him to go against what they had promised each other? They couldnt play favorites, but this was her life, not some strangers. Perhaps this wicked magic could prove to be useful. Fire was a dangerous thing, a double edged sword. She alone held the ability to destroy and create. It was not something she wanted, or even asked for, but it was given to her. By who though? Her goddess had obviously shunned them, could this land hold an entirely new goddess? Could her curse really be a blessing in disguise? She did not voice her thoughts, there was no point in wasting her breath if Cruxer was going to kill her. Would she fight back if came to that? Did she really want to live out here alone, constantly looking over her shoulder, knowing that Cruxer was looking for her? She had never been one to just roll over and submit, she was a fighter, she could handle whatever life decided to throw at her. It was then that she decided, she decided she would not roll over and die, she would not be punished for what the goddess had done to her. She would continue to eradicate the freaks that continued to populate this earth, though she would not contribute to such abominations. She would be the last living freak.

But he couldn't find words. They were both thinking the same things, they knew that much. He could feel it in the rigidness of her body, the coldness of her touch. He wouldn't look at her as he stared off at the brambles she had nestled her way into when he had first found her. A suiting place... He couldn't kill her, he could never do such a thing. He loved here even if he would never openly admit it to anyone, even himself really. But it was a feeling that sat in the back of his mind and nagged him. She would answer him and he would sigh softly. A whole week she had gone without telling him. He couldn't help but wonder how long she would have kept it from him if she hadn't slipped up and tried to roast him alive. The mental image brought a smile to his face though the somber mood that hung in the air refused to let it stay. <font style=" color: #8E000E; text-shadow: 0px 0px 10px #000000;">"When were you going to tell me?"</font> He asked, his tone quieter now as if it was a secret just they would share. <font style=" color: #8E000E; text-shadow: 0px 0px 10px #000000;">"And what are we going to do...?"</font> Not I, not you. There just had to be.
