Lazy, lazy day! What a boon it was to be allowed to stretch one's legs out and merely sleep, basking in the warmth of the sun. Shining like burnished copper, the rogue glittered vibrant and precious among the green grasses, her toes splayed, scythe-like claws cutting into the roots of the fertile blades, releasing the perfume of distress. Her narrow, fox-like head fell across her forelimbs with practiced care, finding the most comfortable niche among the glassy scales that lined her limbs.

It was with a heavy sigh that she eventually drifted into a light sleep, large ears turning attentively toward any sound that struck her as misplaced against the backdrop of screeching insects and calling birds, drawn by the bountiful offerings of the fertile foothills. In truth, she did not anticipate being disturbed. There were a grave many interesting things in Tantus, things she would consider far more worthy of attention than herself. If it wasn't food that drew the wandering soul here, then one might suspect that sport or leisure as a motivational factor. Not feeling particularly sporting at the moment, and figuring that most did not feel it necessary to invite a stranger to nap with them, she felt secure enough in her alone time to drift steadily deeper into sleep, until finally her ears drooped limply and her breathing came in a slow, telltale rhythm of relaxation.

She woke with a start to some dream or another, phantoms of her midday nap fleeing as she blinked in the late afternoon sun. Coincidence would make her appear superficially quite alert despite having been fast asleep, when in reality she was immensely surprised to see that she was not alone. Had that brown wolf always been so close? Her tail gave an eager thump as she yawned again and turned toward the creature, ears slicking back against her skull as she <I>streeeetched</I>, coal-colored nails flashing. "Watching me sleep?" She'd jest, stifling another yawn as she propped herself up and stretched her back. Another thump came as her eyes adjusted, and in the haze of light she made out a golden idol not far off.

A charming grin slid into place as the woman slouched in her makeshift nest of flattened grass, hind legs turned to the side, her forelimbs braced beneath her chest, not a trace of threat or discomfort to be seen. "Come now, don't be strangers. How can I help you, um... Two, is it?"

A haunting cry</DIV>

<font style=" font-size: 15px; font-style: italic; font-variant: none; text-transform: none; text-shadow: 0px 0px 9px #000000;">It wasn't yet</font> beginning to get hot, but Citlali could nevertheless feel the summer in the spring. Tantus had exploded with plant growth, and Citlali knew that many of those plants were useful in tinctures, poultices, and other medicine. She didn't know much, but what she did know was used to the fullest extent. Nobody could say that she was a slacker; perhaps it was her way of making up for being a snake in their midst. She roamed the meadows now in search of herbs, already carrying some bundled up in her scarf, which was tucked under one wing. Head down, nose working, she scanned the ground for plants she recognized. Raspberry leaf---they wouldn't need that right now, there were no pups or pregnant mothers in the pack. Citlali did stop to lip some ripe black raspberries off the bush, though, relishing in their tangy sweetness. There were a few borage blooms over there, she knew those were good for stomachaches. Citlali paused, yanking the plant out of the ground with her mouth, dropping her scarf, and setting the plant among it's brethren already picked. It was a bit difficult, given the breeze blowing in, which threatened to pluck the herbs out of her care and send them dancing into the sky.

As she was nosing the scarf to roll it up once more, a female's voice startled her. She looked up, ears lowering automatically. This wasn't a wolf she recognized, and Citlali was surprised she had gotten so close without being scented. The wind must have blown the stranger's smell away from her. She was a vivid fiery color all over, scaled like a lizard, and Citlali shifted nervously, wondering if she had encountered an Avelorn, given her draconian appearance. But to her surprise, when she sniffed the air, she discovered that this wolf was an Ellyrian. It was odd to see one so full of life, as the only Ellyrians Citlali was used to being around were her fellow beaten-down slaves. <font style=" color: #a1cbde; text-shadow: 0px 0px 10px #ffffff;">"I didn't even know you were there,"</font> Citlali admitted, lowering her head in silent apology. <font style=" color: #a1cbde; text-shadow: 0px 0px 10px #ffffff;">"You startled me."</font>

As she spoke, however, she noticed that the other wolf was looking off in the distance, and Citlali followed her gaze. Was that Warbler? Unconsciously, Citlali's ears lowered themselves even further, and her tail curled up between her legs. It wasn't that she necessarily feared Warbler, but that was how she had been trained to respond to superior-ranking wolves in her home pack. Old habits stuck. <font style=" color: #a1cbde; text-shadow: 0px 0px 10px #ffffff;">"Greetings, Netrtva,"</font> she said quietly as he approached. She wondered what he was doing out here. Hunting, perhaps, or monitoring the borders. Privately, he hadn't struck Citlali as a very diligent wolf, and she recalled not seeing him at the hunt some time before. Unlike Indian, he seemed rather used to being in charge.

He would lounge lazily in the soft green grass, hips flipped in a relaxed manner though he would keep himself propped up on his elbows, one talon'd paw supporting his chin while the other one would idly pick blackberries off the shrub before him before popping them stop waiting tongue. He wasn't overly fond of blackberries but something about the texture he had always loved. Eyes were slightly glazed, as if he wasn't really paying attention to what he was doing. Black feathers lay sleek atop yellow body for the first time ever. Normally he would fluff up the magnificent plumage that he was so proud of but today seemed so... Lack lustre... A sigh would slip from his lips and paw that had been tasked with collecting berries dropped to the ground. He was feeling strange today... Homesick perhaps? At least with father there was always something to do, something to prove... Here there was nothing. His older siblings were bickering all the damn time, Widow was nowhere to be seen... Thankfully Cardinal had shown back up so that made him feel better at least.

Slowly he would drop his hand from his face and slowly roll himself into a standing position, taking his time and stretching. Feathered tail would ruffle and shake as he shook dust from his pelt. Like the rest of his litter he seemed to be more feathers then fur where as his eldest siblings sported more long feathery feelers then actual plumage. Though Widow sported a tail much like their fathers, something he was quite jealous of. Slowly he would turn south, heading further into Tantus and more towards where Asuryan had claimed his pack. Funny how everything had worked out. Warbler had always seen himself as a leader and yet now here he was following his less then ambitious brother and his littler girlfriend. At least this purple woman was beautiful, a fact that their father would approve of.

Their voices would be what caught his attention, moving directly upwind of them so that his scent was drifting towards them. Having once again been lost in thought sharp gaze would take a moment to zero in on the source of the words. Two females though only one he recognized as their healer. Cit Indian called her though Warbler didn't know if that was her full name or shortened... He would pause as they called out to him, freezing misstep as he studied them. Who was this? She was certainly interesting. Citlali would offer him a greeting and he would nod slightly. Oh yeah, that was his rank... <b>"Warbler... If you wouldn't mind..."</b> He would introduce, starting off correcting then deciding it would be more polite to ask.

Slowly he would wander towards them, taloned paws gripping at the earth as he walked, each step leaving substantial gouges in the earth. He would come to move up alongside Cit, feeling like he should at least greet them or something now that he had been called out. Damn. He was feeling too out of it today to put on his usual charming face. With that haunches would drop lazily to the ground, in a very much less then superior way as he studied the woman who had called them together. Not what his father would have seemed beautiful, mostly due to her lack of feathers or wings but hey. Scaley girls needed love too right? <b>"What's up?"</b> He would ask, tone casual and relaxed and he turned a raised brow to both women.
"<I>Relax</I>, sister," the djinn soothed, her tone casual and easy in response to the brown wolf's nervous explanation. Was this girl afraid of her? Certainly Masa had the capacity to strike terror, but she hasn't meant to which left her strangely fascinated by the girl's cowering, steely gaze boring into her. Her lips twitched up in amusement, head inclining in an effort to suggest comradery between the two of them. "You startled me as well, consider us even." Would that help? The opportunity to watch for any sort of relaxation in the woman was interrupted by the ambling approach of "Netrtva", who would ask to instead be called Warbler.

Reservation, when one did not partake in it, was such an interesting concept - Masa's gaze switched between the two wolves as she drew the conclusion that Netrtva must have been a title, that these two wolves knew one another after a fashion, possibly in the mountains where a new pack had established themselves only recently. Judging by Citlali's ever shrinking demeanor, Eve supposed that she must have been a subordinate to the yellow male, though he did not look terribly imposing to her. In fact, he looked more casual than she'd have expected of someone in a titled rank, slouching lazily as he drew up alongside his companion.

Again, she peered at Citlali, as if searching for answers before turning back toward the feathered male with a friendly turn of her head, tucking her chin near her throat, the war trophy about her horn clacking with the movement ever so slightly as a warm reminder of fond ventures past. "Most likely a bird of some sort. "Sky" wouldn't be a bad answer, either." She snuck another glance at the brown wolf, wondering if jokes might succeed in convincing her that the situation didn't warrant a tucked tail and flattened ears. "Masa." Leaving only the healer to supply her name, making the customary introductions complete. "Are you two of the young pack that has settled the mountains?"

<font style=" font-size: 15px; font-style: italic; font-variant: none; text-transform: none; text-shadow: 0px 0px 9px #000000;">Like Indian, Warbler</font> apparently preferred being called by his name, rather than his title. That was fine with her. "Warbler" was easier to pronounce than "Netrtva", anyway. He seemed off in some fashion, and she couldn't help but give him a curious look as he drew up beside her. The fire-colored wolf shrugged off her initial apprehension, claiming that she had been surprised by Citlali's sudden appearance as well. She supposed that, yes, that made them 'even', in a way.

The other female seemed intrigued by them both, and Citlali supposed that both she and Warbler were rather odd-looking for wolves. This wolf was hardly different, though. She looked more reptile than mammal with those scales. Her gaze lingered on Citlali, and the brown wolf assumed (as always) that she was perplexed by her wings. She responded by tucking them in and averting her eyes. It was unconscious, and she knew it was something she should have stopped doing by now, but she had grown up bearing a stigma that extended not just to her, but to any hybrid with mixed wings. It was a difficult memory to shake, but one she knew she would have to if she was to put her past behind her and live a new life.

It took her a moment to catch the joke the other female had cracked in response to Warbler’s question, but when she caught it, she couldn’t help letting out a brief chuckle. It was clever, she had to admit that. The other wolf introduced herself as Masa, and the little hybrid nodded in greeting. <font style=" color: #a1cbde; text-shadow: 0px 0px 10px #ffffff;">“My name is Citlali. And yes, we’re from the Caelum Clutch.”</font> Technically, she wasn’t—the pack seemed mostly for those of the Madar family, given that they held the high ranks. She had been used to living with an upper crust, though, and it didn’t bother her as much as it might have bothered some. <font style=" color: #a1cbde; text-shadow: 0px 0px 10px #ffffff;">“I’m a healer, and Warbler is…”</font> here she trailed off, giving the yellow wolf a sheepish look. She didn’t actually know what it was that a Netrtva did, only that he ranked higher than she did.

Or maybe she was just a nervous individual, he really didn't know and didn't know her well enough to have a baseline to judge her on. He would shuffle away from her slightly without standing in the hopes that maybe some space would give her some breathing room and she wouldn't look so damn distraught because dear god her face was making him feel bad. The lounging woman would give him a smart ass reply to his question and a soft smirk would play on his lips as he took a second look at her. Okay, not the type of pretty his father would approve of but she had a sharp wit, something Warbler could admire.

Though on today of all days he was feeling particularly juvenile, sticking his tongue out at their new companion in quiet retort to bypass words. Even Cit would loosen up a bit and chuckle at their little squabble. He figured that said enough... She would give her name a moment later, Masa. Simple, easy to remember and not some stupid bird name... War approved. Cit would answer her next question and War would nod in confirmation, <b>"My brother claimed it about a season back... Why? Need a home?"</b> He would ask with an exaggerated wink. Yeah he wasn't feeling up to recruiting today even if they could probably use the numbers. They had bit off a bit more then they could chew with the territory they had claimed.

Citlali would go on to explain that she was the healer before offering the floor to him. Though he didn't know if she had stopped because she was letting him introduce himself or because she didn't know what he did. Probably a bit of both since even War didn't know what the fuck his purpose was in this place. <b>"Nothing. I was given a bullshit high rank so my brother wouldn't feel as bad about ripping my dreams of leading away from me."</b> He would say, words oddly cheerful as he smiled to both of them as if he was talking about something as casual as the weather. Yup, he knew the logic behind his brother's motives... He wasn't a complete idiot. </div></div></div>

Pride stirred in her breast as the mood lightened to her clownish jest, her head tossing in a brief nod as even the uncomfortable fawn wolf offered a chuckle. Satisfied, Masa made a conscious effort from that point to avert her gaze from the girl under the pretense of respecting her absolutely puzzling self-conscious behavior. She turned instead toward the lean and bird-like Warbler, with his high, fine features and slender scaled limbs, laughing in a sincerely charmed way at his wordless response. Some part of her stirred with the desire to chide him with the threat of taking the organ if he insisted on pointing it at her, but realized the joke might be mistaken as a real threat, so bit her tongue instead.

The golden Madar would extend an exaggerated invitation, which the Djinn reacted to in an accordingly exaggerated manner, wordlessly leaning toward him as if a school girl, inexplicably and positively charmed by the teasing though it took more than a sweet word or gesture to seduce her. When Citlali left The matter of titles for him to explain, however, he gave her reason enough to refuse. She listened in thoughtful silence, humming appropriately as if thinking very seriously on the subject, though the answer didn't take much consideration. "Your Netrtva sounds bitter, Citlali." She tipped her head toward the healer, though her gaze had settled and locked upon Warbler's own, the grin slackening to only the vaguest up twitch of her lip. "You're a truly giving man, sacrificing your aspirations for your sibling's pride." Undertones of suggested treason lurked in those honey-sweet words, her gaze intense and commanding as she sought to communicate her disbelief. <I>I know better</I>. "I'm far too selfish to be sacrificing all for nothing. Forgive me if I decline such a <I>gracious</I> offer."

The mood passed as she shifted her gaze back to Citlali immediately, nodding to the bundled scarf. "What is it you've gathered, sister? Perhaps something sweet to temper our friend's mood?"

<font style=" font-size: 15px; font-style: italic; font-variant: none; text-transform: none; text-shadow: 0px 0px 9px #000000;">Warbler seemed to</font> notice her discomfort and scooched over, giving her a little more space, for which she was grateful. He extended an invitation back to Caelum, which Masa seemed to appreciate, if not outright accept. A large pack was a strong pack, and Citlali held no opposition to the offer. When Warbler answered her trailing question, however, Citlali lowered her head, recognizing his tone as nothing good. It wasn't outright directed at her, but even one stern word in her vicinity was enough to make her quail, just in case. Masa jested again, though for once Citlali really wished she wouldn't. She was perplexed, though. <font style=" color: #a1cbde; text-shadow: 0px 0px 10px #ffffff;">"Indian's told me before he didn't consider himself much of a leader,"</font> she dared to say, turning her head towards him but keeping her eyes lowered in the style of a submissive wolf.<font style=" color: #a1cbde; text-shadow: 0px 0px 10px #ffffff;"> "so...why aren't you the one in charge?"</font>

Masa did indeed turn down the offer, and Citlali wasn't surprised, after the show Warbler had just put on for them. She tried to understand his frustration, though, as one who had never aspired to anything, it was difficult to empathize. That, and, privately, she thought Indian made a fine leader anyway. After the hullabaloo Caracara had caused challenging Andraste, Citlali was tired of the strife and just wanted to live peacefully. For once in her life she had a good pack, one she wanted to help, and more serenity than she had known for some time.

Masa shifted her attention to Citlali's tucked wing, out from under which was peeking a bit of red fabric. She asked after it, and Citlali was glad to change the subject. <font style=" color: #a1cbde; text-shadow: 0px 0px 10px #ffffff;">"Oh? These are just some medicinal plants I was gathering."</font> She let the bundle drop, exposing it's contents. <font style=" color: #a1cbde; text-shadow: 0px 0px 10px #ffffff;">"Nothing impressive, just a few remedies my mother taught me. At his offer to have her join Masa would lean forward in an equally exaggerated way and play along, something that only brought a soft rolling laughter bubbling up his throat in response. He liked joking around, it had been getting quite stuffy with his family and he was quite glad to have someone lighten the mood for him even if Cit didn't seem as interested in the playful banter. His words would bring a thoughtful hum from their new companion, calling him selfless to which he couldn't help but bark a sharp laugh. Now there was something he had never before been called!

Cit would question him, wondering why he would not be leading when Indian didn't want to lead. How much information should he actually divulge? <b>"Let's just say there are other forces at work then just mine and Indian's wants and desires. Family is everything."</b> He would say, throwing in the last statement to make it sound less ominous. He was pretty sure Cara would cut him in his sleep if he even offered to take the title from Indian. Masa would carry on to decline though he had doubt she would join right from the beginning, he hadn't really been serious either way. Hell he didn't even know if he was allowed to recruit... How messed up was that?

Masa would go on to ask if Cit had anything good and unconsciously he would lean closer to Cit and peer at her little bundle that he hadn't realized she had. <b>"Cannabis? Magic Mushrooms?"</b> He would ask with a snicker though as Cit gaze her answer he would tip his head. <b>"I think I'll host spar training soon... Maybe it'll give you some victims to work on..."</b> He would say with a chuckle, winking slightly at her though more subtle then he had offered to Masa. He would purse his lips and shift his gaze between the two women. <b>"I'm in the mood for something fun. Anyone have any ideas? Drugs, adventure, poking tunnellers with sticks?"</b> He would ask, brow raising and devious smile dancing across his features.</div></div></div>

As the women probed, Warbler declined with a laugh, insisting that there was more to it than simple wants and desires. Djinn culture had revered hedonism - they were, after all, very talented at catering to it, and it had kept them in a favorable light with the more up and up families - which made his claim rather difficult to swallow. Wants and desires were <i>everything</i>, refusing them wasn't simply unhealthy but unnatural in her understanding. Unconvinced, she fixed him with a glance before returning her attention to the herbs and plants that spread out from the bundled scarf. Warbler's search for inebriates seemed more in line with what she could gather of him from a first impression, and the Djinn chuffed in amusement.

"Admirable collection, Sister." Her gaze flicked upward, a grin spreading on her charcoal muzzle as she hummed in approval, ears tipping toward the yellow Madar as he spoke of sparring. Masa liked sparring almost as much as she liked sleeping, though she didn't battle much in more recent months, lacking any real motivation or reason. The antler had come from a trespasser, and as an only child Masa could not comprehend the idea of "playing" easily. Play fighting <i>would</i> provide Citlali an opportunity to practice, however, which Masa approved of, humming as she reached a paw out to touch a green leaf, only to stop as Warbler announced his boredom. She looked to him, placing her paw down slowly on the ground, showing her teeth in an excited grin, her tail wagging in the grass. "<i>Fun?</i>" The idea of fun and the idea of playing were not exactly the same, in her world. Masa understood and adored fun, almost more than anyone, and she had to hand it to him - everything he'd listed sounded appropriately up her alley. Adventure, drugs, danger? Only deadmen found those categories boring.

Citlali would be the one that needed convincing, Masa imagined, turning back to the brown wolf with a "woof". All of those options seemed a touch extreme for the timid woman, however. "What do you do for fun, Citlali?" Perhaps there was a happy medium to be found between the offered choices - she hoped so. Nothing sparked her pup-like enthusiasm quite like the opportunity at community entertainment.
